1. Tubes

Barometer tubes are available in two types. Cistern and "J" tubes. Cistern tubes are fitted in stick type barometers in which the reading is taken directly from the visible column of mercury backed by a scale. "J" tubes are fitted inside wheel or banjo type barometers where the reading is taken using a dial and indicator hand. Stick (cistern tube) barometers require the instrument for replacement since the glass must be blown to fit. Most "J" tubes are universal and can be safely shipped and possibly replaced buy the owner. Click for replacement instructions

2. Hands

I can provide replacement indicator and index hands for all wheel barometers. New hands are available and also hand cut and filed hands can be supplied. In addition, original hands can be refinished.

3. Dials

Dials on wheel barometers, and scale plates from stick barometers were for the most part engraved in brass. The engravings were then filled with engravers wax and then the dial resilverd. I can duplicate this process to restore the dial to its original look.

4. Knobs

Original knobs on wheel barometers (and some stick barometers) were made of bone or ivory. The only replacement knobs available until now were manufactured of plastic but are very close in appearance to the originals. They are available in white, cream color and brown. For the real barometer purist I can supply hand made .bone knobs

5. Glass

Glass for wheel barometers was most often convex, but flat glass is also common. Flat glass seems to appear on many Sheraton barometers with the index hand atttached to a knob thru the center of the glass. Instruments with convex glass had a knob below the dial to turn the index hand.

6. Charts

Charts are available for most barographs. A sample chart is helpful for exact replacement. Charts are availble in inches and also millibars.
