Recently acquired Chelsea base and ball foot ships bell clock with an 8-1/2"
dial. A freind at Chelsea Clock looked up the serial number of this clock
and told me that the clock was originally sold to B.J.
Booke & Sons on March 29, 1929 . It's nice to have
the history about some of these fine clocks.
Early Chelsea clocks were
available in several finishes, and I think that the gold was one of the
rarest. Possibly because of the extra cost. I talked to another
collector friend of mine and he said the condition of the original finish on
this clock was about the nicest he has ever seen.
The pictures below show the
clock in the condition I received it. It had been stored in a basement for
the last 20 or so years. I haven't done anything to the clock except to
pull the movement out and verify that the clock serial number matched the case
number.
I believe that once this clock is restored it will be worth double
the sale price.
More info about these clocks can be found at my friends site:

This
clock has been sold.
